[Day 25] Combination training "Stand" & "Stay" - More control through signal combination
Basic obedience: Day 25 of 56
This video and training is part of the Grunge Obedience Concept, a structured programme to promote obedience and the bond between humans and dogs. The concept is carefully didactic and methodical to ensure that each exercise builds on the previous one for maximum effectiveness. It is crucial that you carry out the training in the intended order to achieve the best possible results for your dog.
Today we'll show you how you can integrate the "Stay" & "Stay" combination training into your everyday life. The combination of these two important signals will help you to keep your dog under control in different situations. Whether you want your dog to stand still while you do something or you want him to stay in one place until you give him another signal.
This training not only promotes your dog's impulse control, but also ensures that he learns to perform several signals in succession - a real challenge that leads to great results with patience, fun and regular rewards.
Goal: The dog stays where you have placed it despite external stimuli until a release is given.
Equipment: Dog Bed, treats, Collar, Harness, Leash, clicker
Location: Low-stimulus environment, later different locations
Duration: approx. 5 times per exercise, followed by a break
Combination training "Stand" & "Stay" - A challenge for signal control
Combination training using the "Stay" and "Stay" signals is an excellent way to improve your dog's concentration and impulse control. By using both signals in succession, you encourage your dog to focus his attention and remain calm and focussed in challenging situations.
Why is combination training important?
The combination of different signals, such as "stand" and "stay", helps your dog to increase its reliability in everyday life. Instead of following just one signal, your dog will learn to follow several instructions in succession. This is particularly important in situations where you want to keep your dog under control - whether at the vet, in public places or simply during training.
This intensively promotes impulse control, as your dog is not allowed to react immediately but must remain in the desired position until it receives a new signal from you. The "Stay" in particular requires your dog to remain calm even when you move and not be tempted to follow you.
Flexibility and fun in training
One of the most important principles of combination training is to keep it exciting and varied for your dog. Vary the signals by using them in different situations and environments. You can start the training indoors but gradually move it to the garden or park to ensure that your dog reliably obeys the signals in more stimulating environments.
It is important that you always give your dog positive reinforcement to keep them motivated. A reward - be it a treat, praise or a game - should always be given after a successful combination of signals. This will teach your dog that it is worth being patient and listening to your instructions.

Summary
The combination training "Stay" & "Stay" offers you an excellent opportunity to teach your dog patience, concentration and self-control. By combining the two signals in different situations, your dog will learn to remain calm even when distracted and to rely on your instructions.
With patience, regular rewards and a pinch of fun, this training will not only strengthen your dog's impulse control, but also improve your communication together and make everyday life more relaxed for both of you.
